I Lost A Small Person!

Last October 2013, I embarked on a journey that I was more than ready for. At that time I was unable to enjoy the outdoors, exercise with great intensity, walk the mall, and I barely had the energy to do anything else.  I knew I had a problem, but I only had ONE more “try” left in me.  I told myself if I try to lose weight one more time and it does not work, I will just get surgery.  In my heart of hearts I did not want to get surgery because I did not want to feel like a failure.  I did not want to get surgery because I did not want to feel that I could not alter my eating behaviors on my own.  After all, I was a Psychology Major (undergrad), so why couldn’t I overcome bad eating behaviors and habits?  I thought to myself, I can do this, right?  Of course I can!

I pushed past self doubt and I lost 65 pounds in 3 1/2 months.  I was amazed!!!  I could walk swiftly, stand for hours while cooking, I could work outdoors in my yard, and I could just L-I-V-E and not merely EXIST.  I was LIVING AGAIN!

I decided to take four months off the diet to test myself and to see if my new behavioral changes had taken effect and it seemed that they had.  I learned many valuable lessons and I only gained back 8 pounds.

On June, 7, 2014 I began the weight loss journey again.  I have lost 20 pounds which makes my total weight loss 85 pounds.  WOW!  My goal is to lose 100 pounds and I am only 15 pounds away from the goal.  In fact, I have not been at my current weight in my entire adult life.  I have not been at this weight since 8th grade.  What a feeling!!!!  I feel like I climbed my weight loss mountain and conquered it.  Does anyone else know what I am saying?

I feel like a conqueror!

Today I weighed in and I am truly excited. My blood pressure was excellent and I have officially lost 69 pounds.  The truth is I have not been this small since 7th grade.  In 7th grade, my doctor increased my daily dosage of steroids to allow me to breathe, and in so doing, I gained about 50 lbs per year for the next few years.  From that point on, I have battled with weight issues. I am so happy that I have moved into a healthy state in my body. Words cannot express my gratitude.

I AM DOWN 65 POUNDS AS OF TODAY – Blood pressure pills are a thing of the past cause I don’t need them!

I just wanted everyone to know that I am phasing off of the Dr. V Ideal Protein Diet program.  Currently, I am in Phase 3 of Dr. V’s diet which means that I am slowly integrating all foods (bread, fruits, & dairy) and fats back into my diet for the next few weeks.  Even during this phase, I am losing weight. Sounds good, right?  Well, I weighed in today and I lost 3 more pounds. I still have 35 to 40 more pounds to lose, but I am going to do that with my fabulous personal Trainer Ellen who created the Balacore (see the blog Links for more information on the Dr. V Diet and the Balacore). Check out my weight-loss statistics below.

Dr. V’s Ideal Protein Diet – Week 16- Phase 2

Dear JWJ Readers,

I would like to thank all of my readers who have wished me well on my new lifestyle change.  I appreciate your prayers and support.  Your support pushed me and encouraged me in ways that you will never know.

Now, here’s the good news.  I am over half-way from my goal.  Yay!!!  In 16 weeks I have lost 62 pounds. No this was not a typo, I lost 62 pounds (smiling).

Today, I was in my kitchen cooking for the week, and I remembered the first time I stood in my kitchen trying to make my first week’s meal.  The first week that I was standing in my kitchen to cook for the week, I was miserable.  My knees hurt, I was sweating profusely, and within about a half hour my back hurt so badly, that I needed to take pain medication.  My life and my body were out of control!  I knew I had to change my life and keep the changes long-term. Sure, I have lost weight before, but stress had caused me to gain it all back.

This program has allowed me to think differently about what I eat and why I eat it. As an emotional eater, these tools are/were very important for me.

Like I said, I still have a ways to go, but I am over half-way from my goal.  In this next phase I intend to incorporate exercise into my program as I want my body to be firm and toned.  In case you are wondering if I did any exercise in order to lose my initial 62 pounds, the answer is “No.”

Ideal Protein Program -Phase I

So, on October 10, 2013 I started a new weight loss program.  When I went to the seminar at Dr. Vaziri’s office the tag line of the presentation was exactly what I needed to hear. The tagline was “The last diet you will ever need.”  After sitting through the seminar I told that doctor that I lose weight easily, but I struggle to keep it off beyond one year. He assured me that they would walk with me through the process. I was tired of my current situation and I refused to let the fear of failure imprison me any longer.

I chose this particular lifestyle or weight loss program because I was in an auto accident in June 2013, which greatly hindered me from doing any exercise.  I knew that I was still healing and I needed a program that would not require much exercise.  In Dr. Vaziri’s presentation he said, “We do not want you to exercise because we want your body to preserve your lean muscle mass and just get rid of the fat in your body.  At the inception of the program, I was over 50% fat and I would be considered obese by most medical journals.

In just 3 weeks, I lost 22 lbs and 19 inches from all over my body.

My Health Journey: Down By 7 Pounds





So it’s official!  I have lost 7 pounds in 19 days with no exercise.  Due to a few unfortunate injuries I have been unable to exercise, but I still managed to lose weight.  What does this mean?  It means that cutting sugar from my diet has made a huge difference in my weight-loss.  As mentioned in previous blogs, I am not eating more than 1/2 cup or 100 grams of sugar or carbohydrates (i.e. bread and potatoes) per day.  It really does work!

My Health Journey #10 : Lifestyle Changes

My health journey is still underway.  For the past month, I have cut out gluten by 50%.  I have been eating more fruits and vegetables, eating smaller quantities, I have greatly reduced bread by replacing it with whole grains, and I do not eat after 6:30 p.m.  When my trainer (Ellen) first presented me with this “lifestyle-eating plan” I was not eager to try another plan.  In fact, I was tired of trying eating plans that do not seem to work for me.

Well, after 4 weeks, I am proud to report that I lost 17 pounds on this plan.  Well, that was the amount that I lost the last time I weighed-in, about two weeks ago. I am not a person who is bound by the number on the scale, but I am addicted to feeling healthy and having enough energy to do all of the tasks that I need to fulfill within a day.

Lastly, my Trainer also has me on a rigorous training program that is non-straining on my back.  After her workouts I am sore for days, but I always feel better as a whole (i.e. mind and body).  My goal is to be at a healthy weight by the time I turn 40 years old in January.  Yes, I know that I only have four months, but this time, I feel confident that my body transformation will be long-lasting because I have a found a motivation worth fighting for.

My Health Journey #9: Continuing the Course

Hey Everyone!

I am happy to report that I am continuing my health journey. I was forced to stop working-out last year as I had a few health issues that had me confined to bed. I am now feeling much better and I am excited about the future.

I am happy to report that I do walk and lift weights three (3) times a week. I am hoping to return to my trainer at some point, but right now my schedule does not allow it.

Oh yea, I have applied for a few programs/competitions. If chosen, I would be given a trainer, a dietitian, and all of the tools that I need to lose weight and improve my overall health. I am praying that I will hear from this program soon.

My goal is to lose 30 lbs by April 2012. I have lost 30 lbs before, so I know that I can reach the goal. I will be adding new video blogs to the blog series and eventually podcasting so that you all can join me in this journey to hear and see my struggle via video blogging or vlogging.
