I consider myself in the prime of my life at 42 years old. I am not so young and inexperienced that life is overly stressful and I am not so old that I cannot fully enjoy life or live solely in the victories of the past. As I contemplate where I am in my life, I had a personal epiphany. What do I want my quality of life to be? Then it hit me! For me, my quality of life as it pertains to having my own family, career, my educational goals, and other personal aspirations ALL seem to hinge on the success of one thing……..HEALTH. I came from a family where many of my loved ones have passed away prematurely because of what they ate, how their bodies could not process what they ate (over time), illnesses, and ultimately their dependency on prescription medications which caused side effects in their bodies.
I said all of that so that I can pose this questions to all of my Readers. What does YOUR quality of life depend on and why? What will you do to improve your quality of life? Why or why not?

Did you know that most sinus infections are caused by viruses (CDC, 2014)? Other causes of sinuses include: allergies, chemicals and other pollutants in the air, and an immune system that is not very strong (CDC, 2014).
To Prevent Sinus Infections:
- Wash your hands often.
- Stay away from people who have colds and remember coughs and sneezes can penetrate an entire room.
- Ask your employer to put practices in place that reduce the spread of infection in the workplace.
- Avoid smoking and second hand smoke.

I am very pleased with Dr. V’s Ideal Protein Diet! I have been on the program for 10 weeks and to date I have lost 41.6 lbs and 30 inches. I love the program because it is allowing me to lose weight without surgery and without exercise. My goal is to first lose the weight or the fat, and then build up my muscle. Some people have asked me, “How much weight do you want to lose?” I say until I reach my goal. I have lost so many people in my immediate and extended family who have suffered from chronic disease like high blood pressure and diabetes. These diseases can be controlled as long as I stay in charge of what goes into my mouth. At 40 years old, I have decided to take control of my life and thwart the complications of the previously mentioned diseases. I am on “TEAM LIFE.”
I just had a conversation with my Trainer the other day. I told her how anxious I am to start working out again. When I have energy I feel so outgoing and I want to do the things I enjoy like weight training with my Trainer, playing tennis, softball, volleyball, etc.
I am particularly proud of myself because I have been on the program from Halloween until the present. I had no problem saying, “No” to the foods that I thought I could not live without, especially during the holidays. Food had become my source of comfort, but I realized that food was not making me happy, it was making me sick. In fact, I was on high blood pressure medication, but within 4 weeks, this program allowed me to wean off of the high blood pressure medication. Great right! I saved $400 per month, by getting off of that medication.
For those who intend to join me on this healthy lifestyle change as we embark on 2014, feel free to send me an email. If you don’t want to join this healthy journey, then I will still appreciate your support.

If you answered yes to these question, please develop a relationship with God. Contrary to popular belief God did not cause these tragedies and He is concerned about us and he loves us. God wants the best for us.
We have to learn that we cannot put our faith and hope in people, our jobs, or anything. We have to reserve our hope spot for God. He is the only one who never disappoints and always comes through when you need Him.
Please do not allow life to steal the hope out of your heart. You do have a purpose and God can help you to discover it.

So it’s official! I have lost 7 pounds in 19 days with no exercise. Due to a few unfortunate injuries I have been unable to exercise, but I still managed to lose weight. What does this mean? It means that cutting sugar from my diet has made a huge difference in my weight-loss. As mentioned in previous blogs, I am not eating more than 1/2 cup or 100 grams of sugar or carbohydrates (i.e. bread and potatoes) per day. It really does work!
Leave a comment and let me know what healthy food choices you are making.
Why did I choose to cut sugar out of my diet? Because I noticed subtle changes in my body when I ate refined sugar. For me the undesired changes that I noticed in my body were: moodiness, headaches, and body swelling.
I decided that I will not die from chronic diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes that exist heavily in my family. I am motivated to stick to the lifestyle changes that I have adopted since turning 40 years old earlier this year.
So, you are probably wondering how I got through the sugar cravings. I must admit that it took about 72 hours to get the sugar monkey off my back, so the first 3 days were the worst. Since that point, I feel satisfied by eating my favorite fruits, grains, and seeds.
I am taking it one day at a time and this approach really seems to work for me.

On Thanksgiving 2012 I grazed here and there. I ate a little stuffing, a little macaroni and cheese, a little turkey, a little fish, a few greens, and desserts. For the next two to three weeks after Thanksgiving, I felt ill. I was even having trouble digesting the food weeks later.
Since Thanksgiving, I decided that I would only eat chicken and fish to finish out 2012. I plan on cutting chicken out of my diet completely in 2013. My goal is to only eat organic fish for meat or protein.
Surprisingly, I feel satisfied and I feel so much better. I have more energy without trying to digest beef and even turkey. I just feel better! A few days a week, I have this wonderful tuna sandwich with carrot coleslaw, cucumbers, and parsley that I absolutely adore. As I approach 40 years old in January 2013, I have decided to give my body a break from the harshness of meat.
I do not mean to be gross, but since I eliminated beef and meat, other than chicken and fish, I have noticed more of an output (bowel movement). I am sure that this is old waste coming out which makes me glad that I made this decision.
Is it hard for me to eliminate beef, pork, or other meats from my diet? The answer is, “No.” I feel better. I feel lighter. I even feel more clear-headed. I know that this may sound weird, but I feel more alive. So, my health journey continues and I am excited to see where this path leads me.
What changes have you truly decided to make in 2013 in regard to your health? Maybe you have decided to stop drinking sodas and drink more water, maybe you are giving up sweets or treats, maybe you plan on eating more fruits and vegetables. Whatever your personal goal, let’s keep each other accountable.
